INCLUD-ED Seminar: Education as a tool for the promotion of social inclusion: The case
of migrants and minorities
The overcoming of social exclusion and poverty is one of the most important challenges that Europe faces in moving towards social cohesion, especially in the context of the current economic crisis. To achieve this a new way of doing politics is necessary that is based on actions
with evidence of success and dialogue with the citizens, including the most vulnerable groups as end-users of these.
The seminar Education as a tool for the promotion of social inclusion: The case of migrants and minorities is organized by CEPS (Belgium) as part of the Integrated Project INCLUD-ED. Strategies for inclusion and social cohesion in Europe from education (6th Framework Programme, European Commission, 2006-2011).
The aim of the seminar is to discuss and disseminate the results obtained in relation to connecting educational policies to other areas of social policy. More specifically, successful mixed interventions identified previously will be presented and the steps required to implement
them will be evaluated and discussed. The strategies addressed in this seminar mainly focus on the inclusion of migrants and minorities as this is where the EU’s input is more dynamic. The Belgian situation will be put into a European perspective by giving a voice to EU policy makers
and practitioners along Belgian practitioners and policy makers.
