INCLUD-ED Seminar: Towards Social Cohesion in Europe:

Connecting Public Administration, Social Agents and Politics

Representation of the European Commission in Barcelona. Pg. de Gràcia, 90. Barcelona

The overcoming of social exclusion and poverty is one of the most important challenges that Europe faces in moving towards social cohesion, especially in the context of the current economic crisis. To achieve this a new way of doing politics is necessary that is based on actions with evidence of success and dialogue with the citizens, including the most vulnerable groups as end-users of these.

Successful actions to meet this challenge will be presented in the seminar Towards social cohesion in Europe: connecting public administration, social agents and policies. The seminar is organized as part of the Integrated Project INCLUD-ED. Strategies for inclusion and social cohesion in Europe from education (6th Framework Programme, European Commission, 2006-2011), the research about strategies that promote social cohesion with most resources and highest scientific status of the Research Framework Programmes of the European Commission. Universities and research centres in 14 countries participate in this project coordinated by the centre of research CREA at the University of Barcelona.

Concrete actions will be presented that are proving their success in overcoming the circle of exclusion and poverty in different places in Europe. These actions serve as a model in Europe. We will exchange ideas and debate with people directly involved – from the public administration, the research and educational and social projects in areas like housing, employment, health and social and political participation.

20th September 16 – 20.15h

INCLUD-ED SEMINAR: Community, family and learning: successful actions to overcome educational exclusion

Our schools show a growing diversity (of cultures, languages, life choices, educational needs, etc.) that requires a more efficient and equitable management of existent resources that meets the actual demands of the society. The role of families and communities to achieve educational success for all is more important than ever to overcome educational and social exclusion. But what kind of participation of families and the community lead to more educational success? INCLUD-ED.

In the seminar it will be presented evidences of those successful educational actions that are demonstrating improvement in academic outcomes and coexistence in different schools of Europe. We will discuss with researchers who have analyzed these actions, members of educational administration and people from the community who are experiencing the improvements generated by these actions in their school and their lives.
